Effects of Cattle Breed on Irish Grasslands
My current PhD work. More details to come, but broadly I will be studying the effects of two cattle breeds - one heritage, one commercial - on plant and soil communities of Irish grasslands.
This work is funded by the Irish National Parks and Wildlife Services, with collaborations from Wild Atlantic Nature LIFE, and GMIT. |
Large Herbivore Diet Meta-Analysis
My previous MA research in Hillary Young's Lab, this project began at Tejon Ranch in California as a study of the diet differences between cattle and elk to understand how their preferences may influence native and invasive plants. However, due to Covid-19, all labs were shut down just as I was about to start my lab work. I would have used DNA metabarcoding to extract plant DNA from fecal samples.
Now, the project is completely remote. It is a meta-analysis looking at how herbivore identity and selectivity influence plant community dynamics on a global scale. For more information, please visit the Hillary Young Lab Website at UCSB. |
Ireland's Forest Fallacy
My first publication! It can be found here.
Please contact me if you don't have access. This paper is the result of my MA thesis at NYU's Glucksman Ireland House, under the guidance of Dr. Kelly Sullivan and Dr. John Waters. UC Santa Barbara's journal, The Current, wrote a piece about the paper, which can be found here. |
